Tips to Sweat Less in the Summer Heat

The sun shining brightly spreading warmth is a much-needed break after the long and cold winter months. Ironically, as the summer season reaches its full swing, we realize that feeling cold and taking refuge of the fireplace was much better than sweating profusely. But our complaints won’t make the slightest of difference so let’s focus on what will. The only thing that makes us hate summers is sweat and though sweating is good for health, too much of it can turn any bright and happy day into a wet and angry one. You cannot avoid going out during the summer months because that is not what summer season is meant for. So here we come to you with a few tips and tricks that will cut down on a little too much of sweating when out in the sun.

Avoid taking too much caffeine

As much as you love starting your day with a cup of coffee or tea and without that you feel grumpy all day long, it is heartbreaking to know that if you consume a lot of caffeine, you are only exciting your sweat glands. A cup of caffeine gets working on your body’s functioning by affecting your central nervous system. This, in turn, makes your sweat glands function more. Since you mostly consume caffeinated drinks hot, the heat itself increases the overall temperature of your body.

The more you drink these hot caffeinated beverages, the more you sweat. Don’t worry; we won’t ask you to cut down on coffee because we know just how much you love it. Just swap a hot cup for a cold one.

Cut down on spicy foods

Go easy on the extra spicy chicken wings. Much like caffeine, spices get your central nervous system working by activating the neurotransmitters which cause more sweating than usual. Hot pepper found in hot sauce contains a chemical called capsaicin. The chemical reacts in our body by making it think that it is in a trauma which induces sweating. It also affects a particular type of nerve ending that is only activated in warmth such as a hot bath or sauna. As a response to this heat, the body starts sweating.

Switch to antiperspirants from deodorants

You have to understand the difference between a deodorant and antiperspirant. All that a deodorant can do is through its fragrance mask the sweat odor. Antiperspirant, on the other hand, is what prevents us from sweating profusely. The reason for this is that they are composed of aluminum salts that will cover the sweat glands and avoid sweating.

Prefer buying antiperspirants with high aluminum salt content from a drug store. The ones that are labeled “clinical strength” always work.

Choose your clothes wisely

The summer season brings you the liberty to don the beautiful sundresses and cool denim shorts so why not choose fabrics that keep your body cool. Go for breathable clothing choices such as cotton and linen. They are known for their sweat absorbing capacity and help you stay dry. Color choice also plays a major role in how much you sweat. If you head out of your house on a bright and sunny day dressed in a black tee, then you will automatically feel the heat and sweat sooner than a person who is wearing a dress of a lighter color. Black absorbs a lot of radiations thus you should avoid it along with other dark colors. Summer season is to be happy so choose bright and fresh colors that reflect that emotion.

Foot and Footwear

If you have a smelly and sweaty foot, then try not to go barefoot in a closed-toe shoe. Always wear socks so they can absorb the sweat and tone down the intensity of the smell to an extent. Another thing you could do to reduce sweating of the feet is to apply talcum powder to them and then wear socks. Choose cotton socks as they will absorb the sweat more efficiently and will prevent the creation of a damp atmosphere in the shoe that is perfect for the bacteria to thrive.

When it comes to choosing the right footwear, buy ones that come with an absorbent insole so that the moisture inside can make its way outside through the holes in the soles of the shoes. Leather shoes make your feet sweat less. The better option always is to wear footwear that is open. Flipflops are designed for the summer season.

Try Sage

Sage is a herb that people know for its capacity to soothe the nerve fibers that are responsible for producing sweat. You could prepare recipes such as soups or salads in which you could add sage leaves. You could also create a sage essence by boiling them in water, straining the leaves and then drinking the liquid.

Stay cool this summer!
